Singer/songwriter Rocky Joe Tippit was born in the tiny town of Broaddus, Texas. The many visits to his mother's childhood home of Picher, Oklahoma helped develop his love of music where he learned to sing and keep rhythm with his grandfather, Wyan Sims, former lead guitarist for The Foggy River Boys of Branson, Missourri. Wyan and family later formed a traveling gospel group called The Eternals.
At eighteen, Rocky got his first guitar in Nacogdoches pawn shop and hasn't put it down since. Married twice, divorced twice, and five children later Rocky lives near Nacogdoches, the oldest town in Texas, and collaborates with local (and some not so local) musicians for an ever evolving, but always Texas sound.
In early 2006, his friends and musicians Jeromy Barber and Dave Morrison encouraged Rocky to do a home recording of a few of his songs and post them on myspace. In August of 2006, our daughter introduced us to his music on his myspace page. He came to our house, played, and we were hooked. We decided to record his first album, Young and Pretty. The result is an eclectic collection of original songs with a little something for everyone.
When Rocky is not in the studio writing, recording or just plain jamming, he restores worn out motorcycles and hangs out with the kids, whose developing musical talents help keep him inspired to play on. His favorite color is blue. Naw, we're just kidding. We don't know anything about his favorite color. We do know he has some great songs.
